Thanks for trying GM Vespy Sans.
、 As you are no doubt aware, the latest innovation in the desktop appearance of the Mac is the use of Apple's Espy bitmap fonts for all aspects of the Finder; this switch is accomplished by using the Aaron extention or the Greg's Buttons control panel, both by genius Greg Landweber.
、 But Apple's Espy fonts are bitmap only; and while they look great onscreen, they print out as chunky bitmaps. Sooo, starting 19 May 1996, I have been making a version of Espy in an outline font. The result is GM Vespy Sans (V for Vector). I think the design looks like the font from which Espy might have been made, had an outline font existed on which to base the bitmap designs. How's that for reverse-engineering!
So, there are more delicious curves than possible in the original bitmaps, and letters have been adjusted to look good together and yet stay true to the model. (Which by the way has a real spacing problem with words like Illinois....) And now, with the addition of a modest letterspacing and kerning table, that problem is resolved in kern-aware applications. The kerning table is expanded for this fourth upload.
、 GM Vespy Sans Titling and GM Vespy Sans Titling Bold are complete for the entire set of characters in a standard Machotosh font.
、 This version of the fonts uses the proper scalingムEspy fonts and Vespy fonts are now pretty much interchangeable. The original fonts are still viable; the difference being that the smaller characters and extra space between lines of the original fonts make them more useful for long, printed textsムmore leading makes for better and easier scanning of lines.
、 And noムthe Apple bitmaps are not included, and you can't add them by just tossing 'em into the Vespy suitcase. Future versions may include enough sizes of bitmaps for use on the Web; but for now the TrueType rasterizer must suffice for screen viewing.
This is the last version of Vespy for a while; it's on to other typefaces for a bit.
、 This outline font is shareware. The fee for license to use these fonts on two computers and one imagesetter is $25. Please remit (oh yeah, you really do pay your shareware fees, eh?) to:
